Anglers who fish the Connecticut River tidal flats out of kayaks report losing more gear to unsecured bags than to break-offs, since a rod tip catching a loose flap mid-cast can send half a tackle tray into six feet of water. The same problem shows up on foot at boat launches along Long Island Sound, where digging through a pile of tangled lures in the dark costs more time than the drive there did. A tackle bag's job isn't just holding gear. It's putting the right item in your hand before the bite window closes. The picks below run from budget sling packs to full kayak-ready backpacks.
